drift inversion

Drift Inversion transforms a nondescript pedestrian tunnel connecting the Central Park neighborhood of Denver. The artificial nature of the constructed landscapes on either side of the underpass are highlighted by the presence of a new, inverted ‘landscape’ drifting across the ceiling. Long before the development of this new neighborhood, and before it was a bustling international airport, this particular corner of the Denver metropolitan area was covered in sand dunes. The slow, shifting transformations of the dunes were the inspiration for this project. Within the space of this tunnel, the dunes are upside-down creating a surreal experience recalling the displacement of the native landscape.
